Power Walk

Well the past few weeks have definitely been eventful. I went to the doctor for a follow up about the Bursa. She was concerned about the pain level still being there, so she referred me to an orthopedic doctor. After an initial meeting, I was sent for an MRI which showed that I have several stress fractures on my tibia. I was told that I need to let it heal and the pain would then go away. Which of course means no running. :( I knew that I had a 10k coming up in a matter of weeks, so I had to make a decision. I am not the type of person to give up so I made a deal with myself to still do it, but instead of running I would power walk it.

Race day came and I was not excited about it. I hated the fact that I was not supposed to run and that everyone would be passing me along the route. I had to accept my set back and remember that it wasn't because of me not training. It was instead me taking care of myself. If I were to run, it would only increase my pain level and time needed to heal. So.... power walking it was. The final time was not what I wanted at all, but the sunshine of my day was having my son join me to cross the finish line. I will go back to my orthopedic doctor in a few more weeks for a check in.
